Brickell Key
When you think of Miami, so much comes to mind right? From the beautiful beaches, melting pot, a happy city, tropical climate and especially the evolving skyline since the late 70s. One of the most unique areas in Miami is called Brickell Key and it has received lots of attention since the first 5-star hotel was built here, the Mandarin Oriental and how it has altered the Miami skyline. So here is a little history lesson on it and some cool factors about Brickell Key:
-Location: At the mouth of the Miami River just off the mainland in the Brickell neighborhood and south of downtown Miami.
-Shape: Triangular-shaped island
-Natural or man-made: It is a man-made
While Brickell Key extends all the benefits of private island living, it is not secluded and here is why…
Thanks to its fantastic location being just a bridge away to the mainland that many cross it by foot, bike or other personal means of transportation, Brickell Key is also just minutes away from the airport, downtown Miami, the beaches, Wynwood and Edgewater, and just south to Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove. So how did it get to be this gorgeous Key?
One of Florida pioneers and in specific, Henry Flagler, organized a 9-ft deep channel dug from the Miami River. This in turn created 2 islands back in 1896. During the peak of WWII in 1943, an investor, Edward N. Claughton, Sr. acquired the islands, eventually purchased additional bay bottom land, and combined them to what we know it today as a triangle-shaped island. However not much development occurred during that time until the 1970s since it was not meant for residential development. It was eventually sold to Swire Properties in the 1970s and that is where it took off as a desirable place to live.
The Brickell Avenue Bridge provides the only way to get on or off Brickell Key, which helps maintain peaceful and relatively traffic-free streets. There are plenty of speed bumps throughout the island, making the pleasant, walkable streets safe for pedestrians. Residents enjoy a laid-back atmosphere and can stroll to their favorite local restaurant for a good meal. when Swire Properties bought most of it and developed it to much of what we know of it today. Mainly with incredible residences in the sky, a few shops and restaurants, a park open to the public, businesses, and the famous views with a walking path all around the island to experience the sea breeze. If you have not had the chance to experience it, it is a must!
Brickell Key Miami offers wonderful living with a level of exclusivity and serenity. The condos are surrounded by water and offer beautiful views while able to experience the famous Miami sunrises and sunsets. It also offers plenty of amenities that for many things you don’t necessarily have to leave the island such as a market place, restaurants, beauty salons, fine dining, flower shops, dry cleaners and professional services that can cater to needs such as legal, accounting even fitness. Speaking of fitness, there is a little park at the southern tip called Brickell Key Park– if you are especially looking for spectacular views, a picnic or just get your blood pumping for a walk or jog, you must check it out! A path circles the entire island, and it is often likely to catch sights of dolphins especially right before sunset. And if a children’s playground is important for your lifestyle, there is also a central park on the island – it’s a wonderful place to gather with other neighbors.
Another cool aspect to Brickell Key is the impressive 21 ft tall bronze sculpture of the Tequesta Indian standing at the mouth of the Miami River on the grounds of the Three Tequesta Point condominium. El Centinela del Rio, Brickell Key, Miami, Florida, USA / Sculptor: Manuel Carbonell, Cuban-born / Completed: 1999
